YHWH or Jehovah LORD is a Tetragrammaton of four consonants from the Hebrew alphabet meaning “Self Existent, Eternal”. This YHWH is to be pronounced Yahweh which was regarded by Jews as too sacred to uttered.  “Adonai,” meaning Lord or master, then replaced Yahweh, so as not to profane the name of God. “Yahweh-Asher-Yahweh” means “He Brings Into Existence Whatever Exists;” “Yahweh Teva-‘ot” in the book of 1 Samuel means “He Brings the Hosts Into Existence.”

When we focus our attention on the four Hebrew consonants that comprise the name Yahweh, we can derive the meaning of “YHWH.” “Yod” is the first letter in the name of Yahweh, with the “Wau” appearing between the two “He.” “Yod” is the tenth Hebrew letter with a gematria or numerical value of ten, alluding to testimony and law, being man’s responsibility to keep and preserve. “Yod” is the “Hand of God,” the Greek “dexios,” which is the “Power of God.” The “He” in Hebrew writings is sometimes used as an abbreviation for God; i.e. “He” or “Breath,” alluding to the Spirit of God. Then the last letter is the “Wau” or “Vav” with a gematria of six in the Hebrew abecedary, which is the number of man and his physical completion. In the name of Yahweh, the “Wau” or “Vav” also means “hook” and links or joins together various and sometimes different concepts. It is the link between heaven and earth, God and man. Thus, we see in Jehovah, the Spirit of God as the Power of God that would link God and man, when God Himself as the God-Man would come in the body of His flesh, revealing His name JESUS.

“Yah” as the name of God was considered to be in existence before Yahweh, being made up of two Hebrew consonants, “Yod” and “He.” “Yah,” as the name of God, is seen as reflecting God, “Yah,” the LORD, most vehement, in His creative power, grace, and redemption. Jewish sages state that the letter “Yod” created the World to Come, while the “He” created this present world. The “Yod,” as mentioned in the above paragraph, speaks of the Spirit of God as the Power of God, while, the “He” speaks of the Spirit of God as the Breath of God.  “Yah,” therefore, alludes entirely to the Spirit of God without making reference to the “Wau or Vav” which alludes to the mediator joining heaven and earth, God and man, by the God-Man coming in flesh. Therefore, when Moses is given the revelation of the name “Jehovah” or “Yahweh,” he receives Jehovah or Yahweh as the Spirit of God that will link or join God to man, and heaven to earth; the God-Man come in the flesh.

Whether referring to God as Elohim or Yahweh, Yah or Jehovah, all refer to God’s specific attributes. For example, “Elohim” is the plural of Elowah, being the Aleph to the Tahv, the Echad or plurality of God in His attributes. “YHWH” or “Yahweh” (Jehovah) is the Self-Existent Eternal God. “Yah” is God as most Vehement.

The author is aware of “Yahweh” followers who believe the correct Hebrew name of God is “Yahweh,” declaring the name “Jesus Christ” as a pagan name of God, being derived from the Greek language rather than Hebrew. There are others who believe that the New Testament or the New Covenant should have been written in the pure language of Hebrew rather than Greek to maintain its integrity as the Word of God.  But God, Who is wiser than man, choose the New Testament to be written in the Greek language since the Gospel is to the Jew first, then to the Greek. Even though the New Testament is derived from the Greek language, it’s language and content throughout is strongly Jewish, with a Hebrew background of types and shadows. The blood name of God is not Yahweh, Jehovah, Adonai, El Shaddai, El Elyon, Elohim, etc. The blood name of God containing salvation to those that take on His name in repentance and baptism is none other than JESUS CHRIST.  Neither is there salvation in any other name. The only name of God that contains and reveals the blood of God is JESUS CHRIST. If you are a Jew speaking Hebrew, then the name of Jesus Christ is Yeshua ha’Machiach, if you speak English, then His name is Jesus Christ.

The author is aware of sects that require a person to renounce the name of Jesus Christ, and be re-baptized in the name of Yahweh or Yeshua ha’Machiach.  This is heresy and denies the Lord Jesus Christ as the only name of God containing the blood of Almighty God, which is necessary to wash away all sin.   “…that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).  Do not be deceived by anyone who denies the name of Jesus Christ, for there is none other name whereby you or I can be saved.

On the Mount of Moriah, Abraham saw the ram of sacrifice in the “Yachiyd” or “Only One” of God. “And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.” (Genesis 22:14).  We, as believers have seen the Supreme Sacrifice of God as the Lamb of God slain on Calvary for the sin of the world, the Jehovah-jireh, Jesus Christ.
